Since the 1970s the civil rights movement has managed to push and promote Black unity and independence.Influential leaders such as MLK and Malcolm X have taking different tactics to get the word across about Black people and the representation. However, the genre blaxploitation emerged in America from the 1970s and was designed to target urban African Americans. Blaxploitation was played by primarily Black people and was critcised by civil rights groups for the use of stereotypes and the negative perception portrayed. However, films like 'Barbershop 12 and 'Barbershop 2' shows a Black male owning his own barbershop and managing to sustain a healthy business. Get Rich Or Die Trying show the rise of Marcus and the stereotype of him changing as a typical Black male into a father.
