Positive and Negative Stereotypes that I picked out from Get Rich Or Die Trying
Positive:
- The crew look out for each other, showing unity within friends.
- "That's enough lets go" and "I told you not to shoot and the first thing you do is shoot"- Marcus is trying to stop the robbery.
- Athletic- playing basketball
- Aspiring to be a rapper- Marcus from a yound age wanting to become a rapper called 'young ceasar' and becoming a gangster rapper "concentrate on my dream being a rapper".
- Charlene's stepdad is strict, showing he cares for her. This is juxtaposed against Marcus not, even having a father.
- Majestic [the biggest drug dealer] is like a father figure- his dialect towards many of his followers is quite wise, especially Marcus.
- Black people are car dealers in this film
- Also, they play priests
- Rely a lot on RESPECT!!
- Playing music producers
- In love with one women
- A father to his child- does not want his child living without a father.
Negative:
- Smoking blunts
- Holding and in possession of guns
- Criminal activities- robbing the Columbines "where the big bills at"- obessesed with money
- Lack of paternity "I don't know why I was looking for my father, all I know is I was looking for my father my whole life"
- The grandad is a labourer " living like a 2nd class nigga"- Marcus says this to his grandad.
- Drug dealers are all Black whereas, White people are police officers.
- Vulgar dialect- constantly swearing
- Majestic raped Marcus' mother and killed her
- Family rejection, but paternity and the lack of it is crucial. Uncle Duce says to Marcus "who's your daddy"
- "Time to join the family business"- Resulting into drugs at a very young age.
- Black characters also play gun sellers- who sell guns to pratically to anyone - showing corruption.
- Aggressive
- Not obident and get kicked out of school
- Getting into gangs
- "You niggas got mo family, all you got is respect"- Family rejection.
- "crack meant money, money meant power, power meat war"
- Illegal driving
- Majority of people are Black people
- Shoot the police
