Short summary: Jatinders independent study is looking at the 'auteur theory' and if it still is needed in films. Her study will also look into one of the media key concepts and that is genre.

Areas of overlap: As, Jatinder is looking at the auteur theory and possible genre and different directors, she is also going to be looking into a genre that Get Rich Or Die Trying is classified under and that is blaxploitation.

What I've learnt: From her study I have learnt about genre development and how it has certain codes and generic conventions.

My second blog buddy is Mohammed

Short summary: Mohammeds independent study is of 'My Wife and Kids' and how Black people are represented in the media. He is going to be focusing on the representation of this Black American well off family.

Areas of overlap: Well, we both are focusing on Black people however, my study is looking at the stereotypes that are being portrayed through the film Get Rich Or Die Trying where there is quite a lot of negative association. Whereas, his study will have Black people in a positive representation.

What I've learnt: The role of Black people has changed from selling drugs to more comical roles which can have its upside but, also another way of them not being taken seriously.
